Consumer price index characterizes the change in time of the general level of prices for goods and services purchased by the population. It measures the ratio of the value of a fixed list of goods and services in the prices of the current period to its value in the prices of the previous (base) period, which is equated to 100. In New Zealand, however, the reference period is equal to 1000 points. Official name: CPI All Groups for New Zealand. The base period is Q2 2017, without seasonal adjustment. The index is used by the New Zealand Treasury to calculate indexation factors for inflation-indexed New Zealand government bonds.
