The stock markets are in a summer mood—reaching new highs one after another. Some funds are also in high demand, but there’s also a lot of profit-taking. The stock markets’ continuous new highs are also boosting fund trading. “Sentiment and trading volume are strong,” reports fund trader Matthias Präger of Baader Bank. “There’s no sign of the summer lull this year.” The DAX reached a new all-time high of 26,562 points yesterday, Wednesday. U.S. stock markets are also trading at or near record highs.The shift away from real estate funds continuesReal estate funds are among the focal points of fund trading at ICF Bank, as Ivo Orlemann reports. “Although there hasn’t been any new negative news, selling pressure persists,” he notes. Funds affected by selling include HausInvest (<DE0009807016>), Grundbesitz Europa (<DE0009807008>), and Deka-ImmobilienEuropa (<DE0009809566>).Outflows from publicly traded real estate funds continued in the first half of this year, as figures from the BVI fund association show: Following a decline of 1.8 billion euros in the first quarter, investors withdrew an additional 1.5 billion euros in the second quarter. Plus, you receive your money immediately and can invest it directly in a more sensible alternative,” it says.Learn more: www.finanztip.deEquity Funds: Sales Often Take Place on the Stock ExchangeOn the Frankfurt Stock Exchange, however, equity funds recorded the highest trading volumes among actively managed funds in July. At Baader Bank, outflows dominate—as usual. Funds being sold include the DWS Deutschland (<DE0008490962>) and small-cap funds such as the CT (Lux) European Smaller Companies (<LU1864952335>). Also on the sell lists: the Astra Fund (<DE0009777003>) and the DWS Akkumula (<DE0008474024>), both of which are internationally invested equity funds from DWS. At ICF, there is also continued heavy activity in the Fidelity Global Technology (<LU0099574567>), with both buys and sells. Like the U.S. tech index Nasdaq, the fund has rebounded following price losses in June and July. Since the beginning of the year, it has posted a gain of 18 percent.According to Präger, trading volume in Asian funds is rather light. The HSBC GIF Chinese Equity (<LU0039217434>) and the Baring Hong Kong China (<IE0000829238>) are on the sell lists.Balanced and Money Market Funds with Inflows and OutflowsOverall, the top-performing fund at ICF is a balanced fund: the equity-heavy Flossbach von Storch Multiple Opportunities (<LU0323578657>), with trading in both directions. Among Baader Bank’s clients, the ARERO - Der Weltfonds (<LU0360863863>) is proving popular.Money market funds continue to post high trading volumes, with both inflows and outflows. Orlemann expects outflows for the UniOpti4 (LU0262776809). According to Präger, there is significant investment in the Metzler Euro Liquidity (<DE0009761684>) and the Pictet Short-Term Money Market (<LU0128494191>), while the DWS ESG Euro Money Market (<LU0225880524>) and the Deutsche Floating Rate Notes (<LU0034353002>) are being sold off.Ivo OrlemannProfit-Taking in Mining FundsPräger also reports “stable trading volumes” for gold and silver mining funds. The Earth Gold Fund (<DE000A0Q2SD8>) and the Stabilitas Silver and White Metals Fund (<LU0265803667>) are seeing more selling activity. The price of gold has recently risen significantly again, from around 4,000 to briefly over 4,400 U.S. dollars per troy ounce.
